Mint & Gold Wedding - 12 West Main

During my NC road trip this past weekend, I went to a wedding for one of my Sigma Kappa Sorority sisters in Thomasville, NC (only 20 mins from High Point aka Furniture Capitol of the World).  It was great getting to see my beautiful friend get married, visit with one of my other sorority sisters, and talk college with some fellow ASU alum.  Her wedding was in historic downtown Thomasville at 12 West Main, which is a beautiful building for both ceremonies and receptions.  The food was pretty good and the space was super cute (no battling icky red carpet or ugly seating)!  Everyone who worked there was also really friendly.  Here's the pictures I took of the wedding.  I love the use of mint and gold!

Baby's breath is a fun and inexpensive touch!  Printed signage looks more refined and easy to read than handwritten signs.

The ceremony was held above the reception hall behind that railing.

Using artificial flowers to dress up the buffet table is a great choice!  No need to spend money on the real deal when your uncle, brother, cousin, etc. will probably wind up flinging mashed potatoes on them anyways.

LOVE this hardwood dance floor and design!

Cheerful chinese lanterns look pretty and festive.  Using white makes them a classic choice!

The wedding was beautiful and I'm so happy for my friend!  The best part of the wedding had to be when the bride reached the altar and in the brief pause between the music ending and the preacher beginning, the groom looked at his future wife and let out a big "heeeeeeeeeeeey"  (as in "hey girl, hey...you lookin' fine" type of tone).  My friend blushed and had everyone laughing...which is a great way to start a wedding!  If you are looking for an event venue in the Greensboro/High Point area, check out 12 West Main!  I had a great time!

Travel Plans - NC Road Trip

I'm off for the weekend to NC to visit my parents and my in-laws before going to one of my Sigma Kappa pledge sister's weddings.  I'm also going to visit one of my very very good friends who I haven't seen in THREE years (shout out to Marie!).  It's going to be a quick trip (I left yesterday morning and we are back again on Sunday), but it should be lots of much needed visitin'.  Here's to hoping I get my hands on some Carolina BBQ and a glass of sweet tea!  Check me out on Instagram so you don't miss any of the fun (@poshpurpose)!  Briana is off to start her thrift store Christmas shopping this weekend so be sure to check her out on Twitter (@poshpurpose)! Another Chair Project

As you may know, I am in a sewing class with the lovely Mrs. Loveless. She has been hunting down fabrics for all the Christmas gifts I plan on making this year (side note: I already finished the first gift! but obviously a secret until 12/26/2014), which is awesome. During her most recent trip, she found the absolute perfect fabric for a pair of chairs I bought at Habitat.

First, take a moment to admire my chairs. J was not impressed, but they caught my attention as soon as I went upstairs at Habitat. The shape is cool, but everything needs recovering/refinishing. Even better? They were $20 each. In case you were wondering, I did not take the pile of window blinds home. Other thrifters were sifting through stuff and piled things on my chairs as I was trying to buy them.

Here is the fabric. It is a heavier fabric meant for upholstery. Mrs. Loveless snatched up three yards of it when she spotted the lovely pink and grey stripes on the sale rack for $9/yard. I had shown her the chair picture last week and she thought this fabric would be great.

Little did she know how perfect the fabric is with my couch. I had already imagined the chairs with their cool shape complimenting my roll arm couch, and the fabric just brings the project together even more. Fortunately, Mrs. Loveless is an integral part of this project which means it will actually be completed in this lifetime. She is going to help me figure out how to redo the fabric parts of the chairs. Yay for accountability and DIY company!

One minor issue: Mother somehow called dibs on my chairs, even though she was out of town when I bought them. I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy for loving the chairs, so I texted the picture to her while standing in the store. The first thing she said when I called her was "dibs!" I'm not entirely sure how that counts, since the rule of thrifting is whoever has it in their hands first gets to own and love it. That being said, we have to determine the custody of the chairs before I start cutting away at my fabric.

Posh Purpose Tip: Frozen Organic Mushrooms

I'm a huge mushroom lover and I eat them any way I can get them including straight from a can (Briana is gagging right now, she can't stand mushrooms), but I find that the fresh ones, especially the shiitakes, are super expensive and organic mushrooms just cost too much for me to include in my weekly grocery budget (mushrooms should not cost as much as meat - they haven't had to be birthed, housed, or fed for many months). Luckily, I've found a great solution!  Frozen organic mushrooms!

I found these last winter at Wegmans for $3.29 per bag and Whole Foods also carries them for a little bit more.  $3.29 for 10 oz of mushrooms is a really great deal (fresh white button mushrooms are typically sold in smaller portions for about the same price), but when you consider you can get organic and shiitake thrown into the mix, it's awesome!  

I use these mushrooms all the time when the mushroom isn't meant to be the "star" of the dish, but just an ingredient or extra veggie boost.   Frozen mushrooms are great for throwing in pasta sauces, topping off a chicken dish, or adding a little bulk to your chili.  However, I would not use them for something like cream of mushroom soup or salads (ick!).  Anyone else tried this easy fix?

Bits From Behind the Scenes: A Lion Dog

On the subject of dog selection:

M: I would like a dog. Of course, the one I want is like $2K
B: Haha.  The one the president has?
M: Well, I suppose that is an option, but I'm interested in one of the doodle dogs - Australian labradoodles.
B: So cute! I want a standard poodle.  Big but no shedding.
M: What about the chow chow?
B: Too hot in Florida. The poor dog would be very unhappy for June - Sept.  I've decided not to be selfish.
M: I wonder how chow chows look shaved.
B: I'm sure we could google.
