What to Wear: Poolside Fashion

I'm so happy to have a four day weekend aaaand not have to be trapped in a car headed away for the weekend.  D.C. has nightmare traffic and although I would dearly love to be at the beach, I'm super happy to be spending time at home, planting some herbs and hanging out by the pool.  One of the best upgrades in moving into this apartment is that there is a community pool.  While I'm not one to sit and bake all day (what with being melanin challenged), I do like swimming around and reading magazines while I dry off.  Mr. 3 (who is not melanin challenged) may work on his tan (men are so lucky...they have far less concern about wrinkles) and will also come swim with me in the pool.  The pool is located in a different part of our complex, so we will have a short walk around the hood to get to our destination.  Some of our route to the pool is actually on public streets, so a cover up is  definitely necessary.  Here's my list of poolside fashion necessities:

Cover Up: I like to be cute, but tasteful....so no see through cover ups and my tush/lady bits should be covered.

Shoes: I also don't understand women who wear super high heels to the pool...seems dangerous, uncomfortable, and impractical.  If you are trying to grab the attention of a certain man, trust me a swim suit is enough...its basically socially acceptable underwear.  Opt for slide on shoe - a cute flat, flip flop, or shoe with a very, very, very small wedge (like an inch or less).  If you don't feel like your shoes will get destroyed and you want something that can take you from the pool to a nice dinner, invest in a nicer quality pair so it will be less to pack for vacation.  If you are headed to the beach, go for a cheap pair because inevitably sand + leather + salt water + $$$$ = sad beach bunny.

Accessories: Of course, no matter if you are melanin challenged or not, make sure to bring your hat and sunglasses...you'll need them for the hottest parts of the day and to shade your eyes while you try to catch up on your reading.  Definitely keep the hat cheap, it will probably get smushed at some point and it's going to cover your chlorine saturated head anyways.  World Market has some great options.  For sunglasses, it depends on your personality.  I have friends who refuse to buy expensive sunglasses because they lose them or squash them and they buy tons of pairs from Target, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx and keep them stashed all over the place.  I have purchased three pairs of expensive sunglasses, purchased at Nordstrom Rack, and I paid $50-$80 for each of them.  HOWEVER, (knock on wood), I have only lost one pair which I had for about three years before losing them.  I do keep one really cheap pair for playing in the ocean so if a wave knocks them off, no worries.  No matter which way you go, pick ones that cover a ton of your eyes to avoid sun damage.

Beach Bag: Finally, pick out a cute beach bag to tote all of your sunscreen, reading materials, ipod, etc.  Go cheap on these because you'll probably wind up spilling sunscreen or a drink and be really really really sad to see a stain on your $400 tote bag.  I suggest a contrasting but complimentary color to your cover up.

Overall Style:  Pick a style that goes with all your swimsuits: sexy (but not trashy), sporty, and preppy glam are all great choices!

Posh Purpose Cover Up Style for the Pool

Tory Burch bohemian tunic / Victoria s Secret swim cover up / Blue pants / Flip flop sandals / Kate Spade white sandals / Forever 21 flip flops / Jute tote / Monsoon decorating bag / Forever 21 tote bag / J Crew palm hat / J Crew hat / J.Crew mirrored glasses / Twill Cotton Cap Mint / Retro glasses / Topshop plastic glasses

I really love those beach pants from Lilly Pulitzer.  I've tried them on in store and they are sooooo comfortable and lightweight, despite being long.  I suggest topping them off with a cheapy colored tank top from Walmart or Target.  The tassel on the aqua tote bag is also adorable and helps tie it back to the Tory Burch tunic preppy glam look.

There is no need to go out and buy a totally new outfit.  I haven't found a cute tote bag yet, but I bought a new cover up from World Market (which is my first since college! on sale for $25!) to match my red bathing suit I got from Nordstrom last year.  Even though it's cream colored, it's also lined so I don't have to worry about it being see through.  My hat is from American Eagle from two years ago and my silver flip flops are Lilly Pulitzer (which I got for free during one of their Endless Summer sales as part of a promotion).

Watching your pennies? Check out raise.com for discounted gift cards to get your poolside fashion on! You can also sell any unwanted gift cards you have lying about. Right now you can snag a Nordstrom gift card for up to more than 2% off the face value, or perhaps sell yours for over 97% face value depending on which way you are working the website. Combine that with Ebates 6% off Nordstrom purchases for a new bathing suit and you save enough money for good quality sunscreen, SPF 80! Our philosophy: more money saved = more fun sun hats. And wear sunscreen!

Melinda's 2014 Goals

Briana and I have been discussing our goals for 2014.  Briana doesn't like the term "resolution," so I came up with "stuff we'd like to do before the year is out."  We tried to think up what we would like to achieve across different categories/concerns in our life.  Check back this afternoon for Briana's list!

Beauty: Learn how to curl my hair without burning off a chunk or looking like a china doll (my new curling iron is on its way!).  Continue the fight against wrinkles with increased use of facial sunscreen even in winter.

Health: Lose three pounds a month and get my upper body strong.  Even though I maintained my weight through the holidays, I have always, always wanted to lose more.  I find it's easier to set an exact small goal for weight loss rather than saying I'd like to lose 20 lbs at some point in 2014.  I also don't want to just lose weight.  I'm trying to work on my arms, so I don't get "the droop" later in life!

Finance: Pay off 40% of the remaining balance on my student loans.  Stick to my grocery, shopping, and gift budgets!  (We will be talking more about our financial goals later in the month.)  There will be babies at some point in the future, but not anytime soon.  However, I've determined I don't want to be making student loan payments at the same time I'm buying diapers.  Therefore, I'm taking an aggressive approach for the next two years to get them completely gone from my life.

Spiritual: Try a different volunteer activity.  Right now, Mr. 3 and I host a Bible study group for young married couples and work the newcomers table once a month.  I'd like to try a new church activity that helps the community outside our congregation.  Activities I'm considering: serving breakfast at the homeless shelter on Sunday morning, running a game night at the homeless shelter on a Friday, and tending the church community garden.

Creative: Make one new Vitamix recipe a week.  Mr. 3 and I L-O-V-E our Vitamix, but we tend to make the same wonderful recipes all the time.  I'd also like to make a scrapbook for 2014, because I realized that I have all these photos I never look at on my computer.

Intellectual: READ MORE BOOKS!  I used to be such a book nerd, but I have totally gotten away from that since leaving grad school.  I want to try to read a book a month and I think I'm going to try the online book club that A Beautiful Mess is hosting or look for a local DC book club to join.

Blog: Amp up our What to Wear and How to Host series!  I'm not sure exactly what this means yet, but I'd like to develop these two series for the blog so that we have better pictures and more thorough articles for all our fab readers!

I can't promise I will keep you updated on every single one of these goals (ex. If I burn a chunk of my hair off, I will tell no one.  Likewise, if I never get beyond Shirley Temple look, there will be no publicly available evidence.).  BUT, in addition to all of our other great content, I will be blogging about my experiences over the next year through product reviews for my beauty items, diet and exercise tips and tricks, recipes and sneak peaks at my scrapbook for my creative goals, book reviews, and continuously improving our signature series.  I hope you'll support us in 2014!  What are you working on this year?

New Year's Eve Date Night

Mr. 3 and I have spent the last month traveling around the great states of Virginia and North Carolina visiting family and friends.  We are wore out.  We are also trying to mind our pennies and DC is hideously expensive for most things and New Year's Eve parties are no exception (and not particularly fun from what I've heard...looooong lines and lots of people pushing one another around).

So, we've decided to spend half of what it would cost for us to go out to dinner at the fancy pants restaurants and probably about a third of what it costs to go to the NYE parties on a nice dinner at home (where it's warm and we don't have to deal with drunk people or getting a taxi).

Super Cute Sparkler Printables
Menu
Appetizer - Baked Brie with Apple Butter (using homemade apple butter from the Methodist Church)
Meat - Steak - 1 New York Strip and Lobster - 2 one lb. lobsters
Side - Asparagus with Balsamic Browned Butter
Wine - Kunde Cabernet Sauvignon (Mr. 3's best friend gave it to us as a gift and we've been saving it for 2 years!)
Champagne - Veuve Clicquot Brut NV (I bought a split - which amounts to about two glasses)
Dessert - TBD (I have to check out the Whole Foods bakery case, but it will probably be one small individual sized dessert.)

I'm still trying to beat the winter weight gain, but this is one of the days I said I wasn't going to worry about what I ate.  We will probably spread out the food from about 3-9 PM.  We bought a decent sized steak, but I'll be splitting that with Mr. 3.  Lobster has 129 calories per cup and I don't use butter.  The asparagus is a Cooking Light recipe (but totally doesn't taste like one!).  Although I've got the baked brie and dessert in the mix, I probably will only eat a light breakfast (egg over toast, banana, and coffee) and this meal spread out over the course of 6 hours will make up the rest of my calories for the day.

The Look
I plan on lighting all the candles we have in the apartment and turning on our Christmas tree.  I'm going to bust out our candlesticks and tapered candles for dinner.  I may also try to find a small arrangement of white tulips (favorite flower!) or other flowers for the table.  I know Whole Foods and Trader Joe's have reasonable prices for their flowers and I can probably expect to spend about $10-$15.

Finally, I'm going to use our nicer table linens and our fancier barware for serving food (once day I plan on getting a sequined tablecloth, which I've decided is a must for every hostess).  I also plan on dressing up a bit with sparkly accessories...but definitely going for the relaxed glamour look we blogged about a few weeks ago.

What to Wear: Bags, Shoes, and Jewelry - Oh My!

This is our last installment of our What to Wear series Christmas edition!  I wanted to give y'all my fav picks for bags, shoes, and jewelry.  Briana has been giving hers as she goes, but I love my accessories more than I love my clothes a lot of the times...so I'm giving them their own moment in the spotlight!

If you are watching your pennies and can't afford a brand new outfit, consider buying a few accessories to liven up what you've already got in your closet.  You can either go with one bold statement piece or a few more subtle options.  The holidays are a great time to find fun and limited editions with a bit of glam to them.

For the handbags, I am absolutely, positively in love with the Coiled Geo Clutch from Anthropologie! I saw it in the store on Black Friday and it was probably a good thing the line to check out was wrapped around the store.  Gorgeous!  Totally wearable with all manner of sparkly things, but also great for 2014 with jeans.  I also couldn't believe the prices on the other handbags!  The black Zara bag would be great for any event and I would totally wear the yellow bow bag from Anthropologie to a casual girl's night.  Great finds and decent prices!

By far, my favorite pick of my favorite picks for shoes has to be the Kate Spade feather shoes - love, love, love!  Also, if you have a pair of basic heels that already work for you (i.e. great shape, comfortable, broken in), try the shoe clips that I spotted at J.Crew.  I saw them in store and they are beautiful!  It's also a great way to head straight from work to an even without having to lug an extra pair of shoes around (there are also two more choices at J.Crew if you need more options).  The wedges and the studded pumps look the most comfortable to me.  I have a serious crush on the studded bows!  So perfect for a casual get together or even church service.  The Zara heels are by far the best value for the amount of flash you're getting!

These are two of the lower priced necklaces I spotted online - can't believe $30 for one!  Also, suprisingly, Talbots has very affordable jewelry (and usually a sale) with modern style and lower price points than say Kate Spade.  The J.Crew earrings are absolutely gorgeous and totally different!  I think it's a new take on a chandelier earring - lots of sparkle and long in length, but totally fresh!

What to Wear: New Year's Eve Bonfire

Melinda's take on New Year's Eve is quite glamorous. As much as I love sparkly dresses, they are not an accurate representation of a common way to celebrate around here. Bonfires out in the scrub are quite popular for New Year's Eve. That means boots and jeans instead of heels and silk. Yet, you can still be stylish for this rural celebration!

1. English riding boots have been popular for quite some time now, coming and going in the stores. I just couldn't get into the trend, though. It is probably because I my English outfit when I showed horses was exactly what the trend is based on - I just didn't want to wear the same thing that I wore for my extracurricular sport. However, it has been about seven years since I last showed horses so I am finally ready to embrace the trend. Since I still own my real riding boots, I just need to dig them out of storage for a more authentic look than buying a lower quality leather pair in a department store. The boots pictured are pretty similar to mine and are a perfect example of where the riding boot trend originated. Either way, sturdy leather boots are great for keeping your feet dry. Just remember to clean them off before going to bed, or at the very least when you wake up the next morning.

2. Keep your accessories to a minimum. These J. Crew studs are a great option for keeping your evening a bit sparkly since they also won't get hung up on a branch. But don't wear anything sentimental to you. It would be very sad for you if an earring fell out and gets lost in the dark!

3.   This J. Crew plaid shirt is so pretty! I love the green. You can roll the sleeves up when you get close to the bonfire or if the weather decides to be warmer, or keep the sleeves down if you get a bit chilly.

4. Wear a pair of dark blue jeans to keep the look from being choppy between the tall black boots and the dark shirt. Make sure they are comfortable and don't get loose and saggy. You will be wearing them for quite a few hours!

5. Melinda loves the J. Crew puffy vests and says they are super flattering. I personally look stupid in vests because my torso is way too short, but a vest is perfect for this type of event. In Florida, you never know if New Years Eve will be 40 or 75 degrees when the sun sets. You can bring a vest along easier than a full sized jacket, and the vest will be more appropriate for those in between temperatures. The vest will not make you overheat like a jacket will near the bonfire if you don't feel like taking it off. I debated between the navy and the black, but finally went with the navy. I thought the black was a bit too severe.

6. I found a cheaper flannel shirt at H&M. It is 100% cotton and the plaid is still really cute. I like how the red does not dominate the pattern. It also goes with the navy vest.

Stay safe and have fun, y'all!

What to Wear: New Year's Eve Bash

Yay for New Year's Eve!  I know it's not quite here yet, but its the party to end all parties and we all need to be prepared to look our best!  This is the time to break out your best sequins, shimmer, and glitz.  D.C. is interesting in that you can find everything from a house party, dinner out with your significant other, high end cocktail party, and even a ball!  Here are some ideas on "What to Wear."  The more glamour, the better.

J.Crew - $365

Banana Republic - $150

Banana Republic - $165
I would wear any of these dresses...but I have a serious fashion crush going on with the blue sequin dress.  Both of the Banana Republic options are part of the L'Wren Scott capsule collection that just debuted this week.  These aren't the only great options in the collection - great prices, design, and materials!  I'm sure they won't last for long, so snag them while you can!  Whatever piece of sparkly fun you wind up wearing, pair it with great shoes, bold jewelry, and a fun bag.  Have y'all started making your NYE plans?  Share what you are going to wear!

What to Wear: Christmas Eve Church Service

My church has a Christmas Eve service where we all get together in the sanctuary to sing Christmas hymns and listen to the story of Jesus's birth. A lot of people dress as they do for Sunday worship, but just as many dress a bit more casually. Every few years, though, I wear something totally outrageous. For example, this is my outfit inspiration this year assuming I have time to make the skirt.

Pinterest

Churches vary in terms of conservative clothing. Even though it is typically not an issue, I like to find out if the female congregation usually wears pants before picking my outfit. I don't think there is anything wrong with women wearing pants to church, but I also see no reason to flaunt my opinions when the end goal is to worship. For this article, we will assume you are getting dressed for a pants friendly church. Another (perhaps obvious) tip is to never wear a low cut anything such as a deep neckline or a low backed top or dress to someone else's church. It is just tacky.

Put extra and unnecessary zippers on a piece of clothing and I think I need it, like these high waisted pants from Zara. They are so much fun. I would totally wear them to my Christmas Eve service. The plaid pants from Zara are also pretty cool and trendy. Both pants go well with the red top, also from Zara - the black leather cuffs are understated but funky. I would tuck the top into the high waisted pants to get the full effect of those zippers. If you go with the plaid pants, the red top embraces the 90's resurgence while avoiding full on grunge. I want to get grungy and listen to Nirvana, just don't make me wear chunky heels. On that note, keep the outfit simple by throwing on a pair of sleek patent leather pumps so you can go crazy with your favorite accessories.

What to Wear: Church Service

As fun as the Christmas season is with all the parties with friends, Briana and I try to remember that the reason for all this celebration is the birth of Jesus Christ.  Church service has always been a part of our lives and there is something really special and wonderful about seeing a church lit up with candles and decorated with poinsettias.  Some of you may be going to church with your significant other's family for the first time, if you aren't a regular church goer, you should know that full coverage and tasteful is the way to go.  Also, find out how fancy church service is...many churches are getting progressively more casual, but there are still others where "Sunday best" is expected.  Here are a couple of more casual dress options:

Kate Spade Saturday - $160

J.Crew - $198

If your church is more formal, I'm loving these two options!  Talbots has really well-made clothing with classic designs.
Talbots - $199
Talbots - $199
Flats or heels, your choice!  Make sure to bundle up if your church takes their candles outside at the end of service.  You'll need cute gloves (watch for dripping wax!) and a warm coat.  Pearls are a great choice or other delicate jewelry.

Briana will be sharing her picks this afternoon!  What do you think of our series so far?

What to Wear: Low Key Christmas Parties

In our last few posts, we've been talking about "What to Wear" to fancy schmancy corporate parties and cocktail parties (see here, here, here, and here).  Today, we wanted to switch gears to talk about those more low key events - cookie swaps, wrapping parties, lunch with girlfriends, or even a brunch party (which is what I'm hosting this year!).

Briana and I saw an edition of Veranda, which is a home decor magazine, titled "Relaxed Glamour."  Even though that was for home decor, we liked the sentiment and I certainly think it applies to these types of events...nothing too fussy or stiff.  Flowing or soft fabrics are great for achieving this look and will also keep you comfortable and warm.  Keep your heel height low or non-existent and take this time to relax.  Even though you probably put a lot of thought into your outfits, try to keep the effortless feel and use minimal accessories (a simple pair of silver or gold hoops, delicate bracelets, or one long necklace...one exception to this could be a bright scarf).  This is not the time to splurge on a whole new mini-wardrobe for all these events.  Work with what you have in your closet or can borrow from girlfriends.  These are just ideas to get you started:

J.Crew - $89.50

Lilly Pulitzer - $168

Zara - $79.90

Zara - $59.90

Ann Taylor Loft - $69.50

Each one of those tops has a great detail and could easily be re-worn.  I love the festive bows on the J.Crew top, pair it with a black sweater if you need to tone it down.  Everything else is really wearable.

Pair your top with black leggings or skinny pants (check out our review of the Lilly Pulitzer Travel Pant!).  Make sure your shirt covers your tush if you are opting for leggings!  Another great choice would be a fun casual print dress like this one:

Boden - $103
I'm loving this whole look!  You can pair any of these choices with knee high boots or flats.  Smoking loafers would look especially fun and on trend with the leggings and if you've got the legs for them, booties are also a great option.  Have fun with your girlfriends, neighbors, and try to schedule a date with your significant other!  What low-key parties are you headed to this season?  Did we miss any fun or unique types of events?

What to Wear: Low Key Christmas Party in the Sun

Today's "What to Wear" post is all about those relaxing Christmas get togethers - totally different direction than our corporate parties and cocktail parties (see here, here, here, and here).  Not every event requires a brand new outfit and tons of glitter. Actually, I take back that second part - everything requires tons of glitter.

My church hosts a cookie swap this time of year, and I think it is the perfect example of today's theme. You still want to look festive but also work with what you already own. Also, we all want to be in comfortable clothing for eating tons of cookies (or wrapping gifts, brunching with friends, etc). Just to give non Floridians an idea of our typical December weather, yesterday was in the mid 70s with a slight breeze. I wore jeans, a top with 3/4 length sleeves, and flip flops. Most likely there is no need for a heavy sweater for our low key event in the Florida balm.

I love velvet so much. I don't recommend it for an outside event during the day unless your goal is to sweat, but as long as you have an evening breeze or readily available air conditioning I am fully in support of these H&M velvet leggings. They are perfect for a casual holiday event and are totally comfortable as well. As we all know, leggings are not pants. Therefore, you must put a longer top on over these leggings. My suggestion is something like the black H&M sweater above. It is a light knit and the 3/4 length sleeves will hold up to a cool breeze but won't cause overheating.

Adding something like this J. Crew statement necklace full of bright jewel tones will Christmas up the plain black sweater. Of course, the bright velvet leggings will draw a huge amount of attention. You don't want your accessories to compete too much, so throw on a pair of stud earrings and skip the bracelets if you go with the flashy necklace. Keep the shoes simple - yes, I just said that. These perforated black flats are not distracting at all but are still interesting.

What to Wear: Christmas Cocktail Party in Florida

Yesterday, Melinda and I had a great time sharing our outfit and style ideas for Christmas corporate/business parties. The theme of today's What to Wear is "Cocktail Party!"

As you can see, I got a little carried away with shoe options. Shoes are my thing. But first, that dress. I need that dress. It is an Alexia Admore dress that is exciting with a touch of sophistication. You can wear it to more than just cocktail parties. I know winter weddings are more of a Florida thing (hello, December 1 anniversary!), but this dress would be perfect for both fall and winter weddings. I love pairing it with these House of Harlow earrings because they add a bit of sparkle and color without distracting from the main event. Those studs are pretty large, too - almost one inch diameter.

Now for the shoes. I love booties because they make me feel wintery without looking totally ridiculous in Florida (full on boots only look not silly when it's actually cold, meaning 7 days a year). I have been in love with the Tom Ford booties for a very very long time. If only I had over $1000 to spend on them. For the more affordable option, I suggest Steve Madden booties. They have a good shape and an awesomely high heel, and most people could give up the gold zipper embellishment for the more reasonable price tag of $160.

By the way, I love black shoes. Probably a third of my shoes are black heels. This dress is just begging for black shoes with great structure. The Tom Ford lock pumps and the Valentino pumps definitely make a statement that is not too loud to distract from the dress. Remember when I said if only I had over $1000 for shoe? Let's make that $3000. Until my magic shoe fairy godmother comes through, I will probably settle for the Joan & David pumps. The tuxedo pump is one of my favorites, and this one is gorgeous. I love the gold heel and the patent leather. The shape is still extremely feminine and will flatter feet while complimenting that awesome dress. Love it.

What to Wear: Christmas Cocktail Parties

In our second installment of the series, on "What to Wear" holiday edition, we are discussing cocktail parties, which I believe has a different set of requirements from a corporate party (for corporate party looks check out our articles here and here).  While a corporate party is all about showing your company that you know how to behave appropriately (and rock that next performance review!), a cocktail party with friends or neighbors is all about being fun, festive, and looking cute under the mistletoe!  You can definitely show off your shoulders and leave the jacket in the coat closet.  I love this one-shouldered dress - sexy and unexpected.

If it's really cold, one of my favorite things to wear is a pair of black velvet pants.  They are slimming and fancy enough for the holidays.  I own these very affordable ones from Banana Republic - $110 but they seem to be running 40% off sales regularly.  I like that they are ankle length...no extra $$$ for hemming!

If you've got the body type to carry off a print on your lower half, I also like the subtle texture on these dressy pants:

Halogen - $79
Pair the pants with a sparkly top.  I'm looooving this top from Tory Burch - but at $395, it's a waaay out of budget.

Tory Burch - $395

Here are several other budget friendly tops to consider:

Pure Sugar - $58

Boden - $104
Ann Taylor - $98
Sabine - $98

Pim & Larkin - $54.50
All of these tops can be re-worn with jeans for a night out with your significant other and you can pair them with a black pencil skirt, that you likely already own, if you have other parties to go to.  Whichever route you go, throw in a great clutch (they say "fancy pants" and holiday cheer way more than you work bag you throw your yogurt and the rest of your worldly possessions in every day) and a fun pair of shoes.  I'll be offering up my suggestions for those later in the week!

What to Wear: Florida Business Party

As Melinda mentioned this morning, this week's blog menu will be all about clothes! Melinda insisted that we have a corporate/business party day, even though I think those sorts of outfits are boring. However, I was inspired by how not boring Melinda's cold weather ideas were and decided to give a Florida version.

Melinda is in D.C. - i.e. more serious than Florida. We can get away with Lilly Pulitzer all year round and peep toes are definitely a weather appropriate choice.

This outfit is light and glitzy, without being over the top for Florida. Besides, what is the point of going to a Christmas party if you can't get a little sparkly? The Lilly Pulitzer dress can be worn all winter long; the fabric is not heavy but you can throw a pair of pantyhose on for those chilly days. I love the sparkly shoes! They warm up the dress and go really well with those awesome Kate Spade earrings. Everything can be reused through out the season and nothing is too trendy that you can't continue wearing the pieces over the next few years.

I love how many directions you can take this Eliza J dress. You can pair it with the green version of those glitzy Menbur pumps or go for a more subdued yet still Christmasy look with the purple suede Ted Baker pumps - don't you love the gold detail? And if you want a more edgy look, you could totally make the Sam Edelman pumps work. Just remember those shoes will be a big part of the outfit, so don't go overboard with accessories.

Rather than putting on a jacket when the temperature drops, we often wear wraps in Florida. Wraps are especially useful when you will only be cold walking from the car to a warm indoor location. I love how cashmere wraps lay, and this one is on sale for $176 today. It comes in many colors, too. I would pick black and use it all season long.

Of course, a well fitted black dress is always appropriate. To make it less boring/more unexpected, throw on these Alice + Olivia shoes. Seriously, you need to buy these shoes.
