Outer Banks Thrift Store Finds

This past weekend, my friend Amy and I hit up the thrift stores and antique stores in Nags Head.  Overall, I found the thrift stores to be a bit lacking.  I saw a lot of plastic and a lot of things in really bad repair.  HOWEVER, I would highly recommend hitting up Class and Trash if you are in Kill Devil Hills  (there is a sister store in Richmond that I would also love to check out!.  The prices are a bit higher (more on par with a consignment store), but the selection was excellent!  Most of the photos below are from Class and Trash.  First up, this fantastic lamp!  Now y'all know I can standing spending a ton of money on lamps, but the crystals on this item make it worth the price...think of it as a tabletop chandelier.

I love love love this coffee table.  You would need a moody sort of room to pull it off with lots of floor space as the coffee table is quite large.  Think Restoration Hardware moody:

Here's a wider view of the store as a whole.  I love how organized the space is.  These beds caught my eye right away.  Wouldn't they be perfect for a little girls room?  Also, that ottoman could work in a lot of homes and it was in great condition!  I thought the prices were also very fair considering you could easily pay $300 for just one twin bed frame and most ottomans cost hundreds of dollars.

The cane backed chairs have a wonderful shape despite their unfortunate color choice (I feel like they were going for a Ronald McDonald throne room look).  Although only four are pictured, the total price was for six chairs!  Cane backed chairs are definitely not cheap when bought brand new and these were in excellent condition with no damage to the caning.

This chair was freshly upholstered and would be super sweet in a nursery!  I'm not a huge fan of the ric rac along the bottom, but the piping and button covers more than make up for the ric rac (which could probably be removed).

Class and Trash also had bins of well organized iron hooks, door knockers, and bottle openers.  It can be really difficult to find matching items at a thrift store, so it was great to see such large quantities at fairly reasonable prices.

Love these two chairs!  They were so comfortable!  The chairs were solidly built and besides the minor damage to the fabric on the chair on the left, they were in excellent condition.  I would love to see these recovered in a deep blue or green velvet.

While shopping, Briana sent me a text message with picture saying she had found a fireplace screen at the flea market in Florida for $45.  I literally turned the corner at the antique store I was shopping in and I found the exact same one for $75!  I'd say she got a great deal!

Posh Purpose Review: The Cottage Shop in Nags Head, NC

When we went to Nags Head last year, I came across a super cute shop called The Cottage Shop that sells home decor, Christmas decorations, entertaining essentials, and small gifts.  I bought our yearly ornament from The Cottage Shop last year and I decided to go back to look for another this past weekend.  I also got a bunch of great Christmas decorating ideas for my first Christmas tree that I was able to put together using cheaper sources such as Michael's.  The store is creatively decorated with at least six Christmas trees, but doesn't feel too crowded or overdone.  The sales ladies are all wonderfully helpful and sweet.  Here's a couple of the displays that I thought were especially creative...like this inverted white Christmas tree designed to look like underwater sea life:

I also really like the more natural look to this red and burlap woodland tree.  I love the frilly bow at the top.  The faux poinsettias are really pretty pops of color!  Using faux florals on my tree is one of the ideas I got from this store last year.

These beautiful hanging ornaments would look great in the windows, hanging from the banisters or mantels, or even from certain chandeliers.

Unfortunately, I couldn't limit myself to just one ornament this year!  All the ornaments are so pretty and well-made, that I wound up buying four, but luckily they were only $11.99-$13.99 each aaaaaand the super sweet sales lady gave me a discount.

I'm super excited to put these on my tree in a few weeks!  If you are in the Outer Banks, I highly recommend that you stop by The Cottage Shop at one of their three locations for some decorating inspiration and gift ideas. There will be another sale on Black Friday if you are lucky enough to be spending Thanksgiving at the beach!

Nags Head Photo Round Up

We got back from Nags Head last night and it was an awesome birthday trip filled with thrift store shopping, seafood eating, walking on the beach, and sitting on the porch...lots of much needed relaxation.  Here are some photos I took while we were on our trip.  Enjoy!

Mint & Gold Wedding - 12 West Main

During my NC road trip this past weekend, I went to a wedding for one of my Sigma Kappa Sorority sisters in Thomasville, NC (only 20 mins from High Point aka Furniture Capitol of the World).  It was great getting to see my beautiful friend get married, visit with one of my other sorority sisters, and talk college with some fellow ASU alum.  Her wedding was in historic downtown Thomasville at 12 West Main, which is a beautiful building for both ceremonies and receptions.  The food was pretty good and the space was super cute (no battling icky red carpet or ugly seating)!  Everyone who worked there was also really friendly.  Here's the pictures I took of the wedding.  I love the use of mint and gold!

Baby's breath is a fun and inexpensive touch!  Printed signage looks more refined and easy to read than handwritten signs.

The ceremony was held above the reception hall behind that railing.

Beautiful wedding tablescape with simple flowers and classic touches.  Love the lace runner and the apothecary bottles!

Clever use of paint swatch cards to make a seating chart because all the colors "go."

Using artificial flowers to dress up the buffet table is a great choice!  No need to spend money on the real deal when your uncle, brother, cousin, etc. will probably wind up flinging mashed potatoes on them anyways.

LOVE this hardwood dance floor and design!

Cheerful chinese lanterns look pretty and festive.  Using white makes them a classic choice!

The wedding was beautiful and I'm so happy for my friend!  The best part of the wedding had to be when the bride reached the altar and in the brief pause between the music ending and the preacher beginning, the groom looked at his future wife and let out a big "heeeeeeeeeeeey"  (as in "hey girl, hey...you lookin' fine" type of tone).  My friend blushed and had everyone laughing...which is a great way to start a wedding!  If you are looking for an event venue in the Greensboro/High Point area, check out 12 West Main!  I had a great time!
