Bathroom Renovation Antiques

Even though our closing date was shifted back by a month, I have been making progress on my bathroom renovation. I've either chosen or narrowed down options for a lot of the big stuff with the help of my mom and sister. We are still working on the lighting situation (no lighting luck on the antique shopping trip) and I am waiting until we officially own the house before purchasing anything new. As I explained before, there is nothing original left in the bathroom and I don't want to overwhelm the space with brand new everything. So I have picked up a handful of antiques/old stuff that will probably be used in the bathroom.

My bathroom has a giant window that needs to be replaced. I wanted to do something interesting, but a custom made stained glass window costs was more than I wanted to spend. My sister and I found three of these windows at the Barn. The current plan is to have a normal window installed in the bathroom and hang these stained glass windows in front for more privacy and also because they are pretty. By the way, the Barn has a room full of stained glass windows at great prices in case anyone else is looking. But you must set your windows up by the checkout desk quickly. We saw one man purchase at least 10 windows and a woman purchase 6! And make sure you search for matching sets. None of my windows were next to each other so it took a bit of digging to locate all of them.

The bathroom is actually quite large but has no storage, so mom thought I should find a piece of furniture to use rather than reformatting a neighboring closet into a linen closet. I had assumed that the search for bathroom furniture would take a lot longer than it did. J and I found this cool kitchen unit at Habitat on Saturday and I got an awesome deal! I paid $100 and it is in great shape. The missing drawer is actually only missing for this picture. J was examining it because it was originally for storing flour. I did a bit of research to discover that this is probably a hoosier cabinet, but I forgot to search for markings before dropping it off to store with the rest of my thrifting purchases. Overall, the metal body needs sanding (thanks J!) and painting, but I won't be doing anything to the enamel counter.

Of course, we won't know for sure if these things will work in the bathroom until we get in there and start trying things out. However, I will definitely find another home for the windows and I already have a back up plan for the cabinet. I think it would be perfect in a laundry room, which we will eventually be building. Don't worry - there is a laundry area in the house, but I disagree with the former owners' idea to put it in the middle of the other bathroom.

Checking in from Richmond

Hey Posh Purpose readers!  We are finally ready to ease back into posting this week.  I'm about 85% unpacked and I've been working at my new job for two weeks now.  It's been a huge learning curve, but I'm really enjoying the people, the office environment, and working in a new field.  I've switched over from focusing on law enforcement issues to health care, but I think it is going to be a great change!

Mr. 3 and I are renting an apartment for a year while we get used to the area and consider what we might want for a house.  I'm already stalking the real estate listings and trying to find out more on the school systems (for future bambinos - way in the future mind you.).

Otherwise, we are enjoying exploring the neighborhoods.  I've found a ton of thrift stores, consignment shops, and cute boutiques.  The craigslist scene here is insanely good!  Briana has been getting constant texts and emails - she's pretty sure I could outfit an entire house through craigslist.  We've tried out two different churches, but we are still on the hunt.  We have also been to a few restaurants and haven't been disappointed yet!

Briana and I have been discussing what we are going to focus on the next year for Posh Purpose.  Of course, Briana is going to have her hands full with making her new house her own, but she still plans to continue other posts like Thrift Store Finds and makeup reviews to Posh Purpose.  I will probably be doing less entertaining this year because our Richmond apartment is much smaller and I'd rather put party money towards parties in a future house.  However, Mr. 3 got me awesome new garden shears for Christmas (among other things), so I still plan on doing flower arrangements for my own enjoyment rather than decorating for a par-tay.  I'll also be sharing all my exploring around Richmond including restaurant and shopping reviews and Thrift Store Finds.  We definitely have not changed our minds about the purpose of Posh Purpose and we want you to keep joining in on the fun!

A Few Updates

Melinda has officially moved into her new apartment and started her new job! Probably the best news from her new adventures is that Richmond is significantly warmer than DC, so yay for freezing less. She is working out a few storage issues, but so far is enjoying the new city.

We were supposed to close on our house last Wednesday, but the bank still has to clear the title of liens. Fortunately, this is not a huge deal as the liens are from the local code enforcement board which is usually pretty straight forward. At first, this setback was a bit annoying but I have been using this time to figure out the details of our first remodeling project! We are going to redo the main bathroom and hopefully bring back some character from the 1930's. There is nothing original in the bathroom and the things in place are not great. I've found options for tile and plumbing fixtures. I', considering going shopping for antique lighting this weekend to bring a bit of old back into the room.

We are going to attempt a consistent but light blogging schedule while Melinda adjusts to her exciting new routine and I sort out house things. The goal is for Posh Purpose to not turn into the blog of Briana's house, but there will be an increase in that category as it is my main focus. You may also notice a decrease in How to Host posts on Melinda's side until she gets more settled, but maybe she will share some more about staying organized? She also has an entirely new set of thrift and antique stores to explore and share!

Update from Florida

I'm so excited for Melinda to start her new job soon! She mentioned that I have news as well. Right around the time her job prospects were looking good, I discovered an adorable house that had just went on the market. Things have gone well and now J and I are in the process of purchasing it!

Between house activities and tons of traveling for Christmas Eve and the Orange Bowl (thanks baby sister!), I haven't had much time to create new content for the blog. However, I will be able to post quite a bit more when we officially own the house.

This isn't the first time big things have happened so closely in Melinda's and my lives. We also got engaged a few weeks apart and planned our weddings together. Hopefully we will be moving around the same time as well. Please excuse us while we take care of the less fun bits like packing/unpacking/organizing/cleaning!

We're Alive!

Hey Posh Purpose Readers!  Briana and I are indeed alive and well!  We took an unintended break in December that was only supposed to be a few days, but then snowballed into about a month.  We're sorry!  BUT we have really good reasons!  I'll let Briana share her news with y'all at a later date, but I'm finally able to say that after much prayer, wishing, hoping, and hard work...I got a new job and Mr. 3 and I are moving to Richmond!

Part of the reason, I've been MIA since Thanksgiving is because this past month I've:

Cooked dinner for 8 for Thanksgiving
Went to Atlanta for work for 5 days
Studied, prepped, and had a 1st and 2nd round interview
Spend days in Richmond searching for apartments
Signed a lease on an apartment
Bought a new car
Attended various corporate and friends Christmas parties
Flew to NC to visit my parents
Drove to southwest Virginia to visit Mr. 3's parents

I can't remember ever being this tired (I've also had two colds)...and now I face a mountain of packing.  We are set to move on January 14th, but between now and then I've got to wrap up projects at my current job, go to a ton of doctor's appointments since I won't have sick leave built up at my new job for awhile, and say goodbye to all of my friends!

I'm so excited to be moving to Richmond and I know I can make it through the next few weeks, but it is coming up fast.

Briana and I have no plans to give up Posh Purpose anytime soon, so bear with us while we are making some transitions in our personal lives!
